佐佐木實は日本人美術家。東京を拠点に活動。

「イ充つ」は2015年に始まったプロジェクトです。私はこのプロジェクトを通じて、人の存在の在りようや個別性について考えながら制作しています。
ここでは私は「イ」という文字をただ一つのモチーフとして描いています。実は「イ」を「人」をあらわすしるしと想定して用いているのです。
同じしるしが描かれるわけですが、それぞれが独自の様相を呈しています。それは、私たちが人として共通の要素を有しながらも、それぞれに違いがあることと呼応するものです。
実在の人物から着想を得たり、ある状況を想定したりして、特定の人物の肖像画を描くかのように取り組むこともあります。また、なかにはイの形象がほとんど確認できないようなものもあります。それは己に向き合い変容する渦中の人の姿でもあるのかもしれません。
描かれたしるしを見ると、人それぞれの生の意味について取り組んでいるようにも感じます。喜びと痛みに彩られた多様ないのちの灯火を描いているようにも感じています。

Minoru Sasaki is a Tokyo-based Japanese artist.

I have been working on the art project 'imitsu' (イ充つ, or i fulfilling) since 2015 to explore how we humans embrace our presence and individuality.
Throughout the project, I draw the sign イ, Japanese character notating the /i/ sound, which is my sole motif. This is the icon I utilise to symbolise an 'individual'.
All the represented icons are the same but each has its own distinct characteristics, just like us who share common traits as humans while each reveals one's own differences.
Sometimes I get inspired by a real person or imagine a situation to approach my work as if I were painting a portrait of a specific individual. There are also some works in which the figure イ is barely discernible; that might be the image of someone caught in the midst of transformation through questioning one's true self.
When I look at these icons, I feel as if I'm exploring the meaning of life that is unique to each of us. I also feel like I render our diverse torches of life animated by joy and pain.
